AN INNOVATIVE NEW ONLINE-ONLY MEDICAL SCHOOL

I’m excited to announce that I’ve secured $100 million in funding to establish The University of North America School of Medicine (UNOTMD); the first online-only medical school. (100 000 practicing physicians have each contributed $1000 for the endowment)
Since the general public has seemed willing to accept non-physician providers in healthcare who are trained in online only classes – my colleagues and I thought it prudent to establish a pathway for aspiring future-physicians to also pursue their studies using this innovative format.
The online-only medical school comprises of 18 months of total course work (conducted on a schedule as convenient for the medical student). Prerequisites include a GPA of 3.0 or higher, a BA/BS from anywhere in the world, two letters of recommendation, and 100 clinical hours of observation or volunteer experience in any practice setting. The MCAT of course will be waived for this exciting new program of study (Medical College Admission Test).
Having an online only medical school will allow students to avoid burdensome student loans and lengthy requirements of four years of medical school. At the end of the intensive program a Doctor of Med-e-cine degree (MDe) will be awarded. Finally, in keeping with current academic traditions in 2018-any degree after a bachelors shall be considered a doctorate, and hence the new practitioners will naturally be known as Doctors.
Since we will not officially be practicing under the Board of Medicine under any jurisdiction, the USMLE will not be necessary (United States Medical Licensing Examination). I am most excited to announce that since other “providers” in the United States are now allowed to practice medicine without the 3 to 7 years of closely supervised on-the-job clinical training called “residency” – we will not push this optional activity at the completion of the coursework.
We are honored to be able to provide a such a fast track to address the physician shortage in America. Although we sincerely hope that the majority of our providers will practice primary care in underserved areas, we must note that legally our institution cannot stop the majority of graduates from entering aesthetics or opening med-spas.

Oh also in terms of oversight and standards of care, can you please make it so that none are applicable to the physicians who attend the online medical school?
Are current MDs allowed to participate in this (like get a second MD) and practice under more careless standards since we have no proof that it won’t harm anyone?
This is so exciting. We are going to resolve the physician shortage by reducing the patient populations and creating more providers at the same time! Yay!

Why not! As it is Non physicians providers ( NP, PA) are taking shortcuts to “learning” medicine by online only education and training and the legislators are more than happy to change laws to allow them to experiment on patients….also allowing nurses to practice medicine ( those are two VERY different fields).
